Rise
I had been saving a magazine article that included re-colored photos of vintage aircraft because I loved the color scheme and I have a background in aviation. When I came across the photo of my daughter with the bubble, I was drawn towards the notion of flight and “rising above”. I incorporated torn pieces of the vintage aircraft photos into this piece, but you’ll have to look closely to find them. They aren’t immediately obvious but at the same time they are highly significant, which is what I love about abstract art. To me, this piece represents floating, flying and rising to meet challenges. It is also deeply intertwined with my family history. I love that it can resonate with someone else for completely different reasons.
Acrylic paint and collaged paper on 18in x 24in cradled birch panel with 7/8” painted edges. Varnished and ready to hang.
