Geodes
I had no plan or composition in mind when I started this piece; I just felt the purple and olive wool strips calling me. They are so gorgeous! Purple and green have always been my favorite colors. (I think probably half of my childhood clothes were purple and in high school, I loved my purple mascara. I thought it set off my green eyes and made me look very cool.) For this piece, I started experimenting with circles and placement of the colors. A friend from high school saw the work in progress and said they looked like geodes. I loved that feedback and decided to offset the heavy, solid feeling of geodes against a flowing composition full of movement.
Acrylic, burlap and wool on 18in x 24in cradled birch panel with 7/8” painted edges. Varnished and ready to hang.
